The most important assignment a mom has is to nurture her children. A nurturing mom goes beyond the “maintenance person” in a child’s life. She doesn’t just keep a child clean, fed, warm and dry. She helps her children develop fully by pouring life into them. She models joy and passion. Nurturing is filling your child with aliveness.
You take time to read, play and listen. You kiss the bruised knee and hug away the hurt. You protect and guide – allowing them to make mistakes that will help your children grow to mature adults. You no doubt will go through many tissues during the process but you know it’s all worth the effort. It is all worthwhile.
Nurturing is not only about doing it all or doing it perfectly. It’s about doing the best you can without losing yourself or driving yourself crazy. You are not God and therefore cannot do all things to perfection. Don’t burn yourself out. If you are a working mom, you are helping to provide your family with the necessities of life. You have chosen quality child care so your children are surrounded with partners that share your concerns and desires. Take care of yourself because you need aliveness in order to pass life on to your children.
Enjoy this special day because you, mom, are special.
