Early childhood education builds a foundation for learning and socialization. Choosing the “right” preschool program for your child usually requires a “gut” instinct from the parent. However, there are certain areas to assess when evaluating a preschool program:
- A school should have an open door policy so you can visit and tour the program at any time. Ask to meet with the director or owner so your questions can be answered by the person that is responsible.
- Determine if the staff is “qualified” , “certified” or “licensed”. Do your due diligence beforehand to know the difference.
- Review heath and safety issues as well as the schools philosophy, curriculum, class size and safety certifications of the staff.
- Be sure to ask specifically how the school will accommodate any special needs your child may have, including receiving speech and other in-classroom therapies as well as snack and meal considerations.
- Get references and take your time presenting your questions and concerns.
